HIgh Frequency clock source in MSP430F2xxxx

Is there a MSP430F2xxx device in a 16QFN package that will take a 12MHz clock source?  If not,  what's the maximum clock they will accept?

Thanks,

Ken S.

  • The 2010 MSP430 selection guide only shows F2001/2002/2003/2010/2011/2012/2013 as being available in the 16QFN package.

The family users guide SLAU144E says:

"Note: Device-Specific Clock Variations All clock features are not available on all MSP430x2xx devices.
MSP430x20xx: LFXT1 does not support HF mode, XT2 is not present, ROSC is not supported."

And the data sheet for the F201x parts show that in LF mode (since as above HF mode is not offered on these parts) LFXT1 can only be clocked externally to a maximum of 50000Hz, and there appear to be no other higher frequency external CPU clock source options.  You could externally clock the timer units at a much higher rate from external pins, but you cannot use this as a CPU clock source as far as I know.  So the only viable high speed clock is the DCO generated clock for these parts, or using the 50kHz max. LFXT1 clock input for low speeds.

I believe the G2xxx devices in the same 16QFN package have similarly restrictive characteristics.
