MSP432P401R: Compatibly of MSP432p401r with CAN

Part Number: MSP432P401R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550, MSP432E401Y

Is MSP432p401r is compatible with CAN protocol and I want to know what is the hardware require for it ?

  • Hello Raghav,

MSP432P401R device does not have a CAN controller. You can use an external CAN that would communicate with the MSP432P401R over a serial interface like SPI. One example of an external CAN that uses SPI to communicate with the host MCU is TCAN4550.

Alternatively you could use the MSP432E401Y device that has a CAN controller.

Can you give us some idea about how you plan to use CAN with MSP432P401R?

    Thanks,
    Sai
  • Thanks to clear mine doubt I just plan to interface MSP432P401R with CAN controller through SPI, actually I want to receive and transmit data between MSP432 & MSP430 which would act as a node along with one more node and I am doing this with in a nano satellite.

    Suggestions are welcomed !!!

    Thanks

  • Hello Raghav,

I understand that you want to communicate between MSP432 and MSP430 over CAN.

As far as I know both these families don't have a CAN controller. So you will have to interface both these devices with external CAN controller over serial interface (as mentioned in my earlier email). You will most likely also have to add a CAN transceiver to this external CAN controller, unless you use an CAN controller with integrated transceiver, like TCAN4550.

    Thanks,
    Sai
