RTOS/MSP432E401Y: RTOS/MSP432E401Y

Part Number: MSP432E401Y
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3120

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Hello,

I am using the CC3120BOOST with  MSP-EXP432E401Y. The example code being used with this combination is 'network_terminal' which was obtained by the installation of MSP432E401Y SDK.

In this example code, the command which I am focusing on is "radiotool". The same example code was available with CC3220 SDK.

We made some modification during transmission of data packets such that the delay between two packets is 0.

The same code is being run/used for the CC3220 as well as the bundle(CC3120 + MSP432E401Y).

On testing with CC3220, at 11 MBPS data rate, the packets per second (PPS) achieved was approx 708.

But with the CC3120 and MSP432E401Y, at the same data rate of 11 MBPS, the PPS achieved was approx 241.

So, the PPS obtained with CC3220 is almost 3 times of the PPS obtained with the bundle consisting of CC3120 and MSP432E401Y.

My query is:

1) Why is there the difference in PPS when same command and same code is being used with zero delay between two packets being transmitted?

2) How can I increase my throughput with CC3120 + MSP432E401Y?

3) Is there anything wrong in my understanding?

Thanks,

Vaishali.

  • Hi Vaishali,

How are you measuring the packets per second TX from radiotool?

One reason why the MSP432 + CC3120 results in much lower throughput is that the SPI interface is clocked at a much lower default rate (3MHz) while the CC3220 has the internal SPI bus to the network processor clocked at 20MHz. What happens when you increase the SPI clock on the MSP432? You can do this by modifying wifiMSP432HWAttrs.spiBitRate in MSP_EXP432E401Y.c.

    Regards,
    Michael
