MSP430 open core synthesis

I would like to use openMSP430 for a commercial project and sell the device. Do I need a license from TI or does TI have any business / legal restrictions on this.

Yes, openMSP430 is not affiliated with TI as per you pointer. This does not really answer the question if TI has any business
issues if openMSP430 is used to make a parts that is the sold commercially.

Sorry for the late reply here. As james pointed out, TI is no associated or affiliated with openMSP430, so use openMSP430 at your own risk here.

One thing to note is that typically all of our code examples, software libraries, and other collateral is license free to use as long as it's on an MSP430 Device. Please check any associated code examples, software libraries, or other collateral for exact licensing language, usage, and restrictions.

Dear Jace,

Thanks for your reply. It clarified a lot of things. Once more follow on question. openMSP uses mostly the same instruction set as MSP430.

The was the whole idea of doing a openMSP430. Would this fall under the category of "other collateral" ?

"Other collateral" means "other stuff that is protected by copyright/trademarks". But the instruction set itself cannot be copyrighted.

What you'd have to care about would be patents, but those expire after 20 years.
