MSP430F1611: Looking for a LaunchPad for MSP430F1611

Part Number: MSP430F1611
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR2355, MSP430FR5969, MSP430F5529

Hello,

I am fairly new to the MSP family and am starting a project off. I have used the c2000 launch pads and was wondering if there is one for the MSP430F1611.

If there is one please let me know. If not, what is the best way to start about learning how to program this board.

Any help is welcomed !

Regards,

Rajan Joshi

  • Hello Rajan,

There is no Launchpad available for this board. Only the Target Board associated with it which can be found on the Tools and Software Tab on the product page.

What about this particular chip meets your needs? I maybe able to point you to a newer device that is on a LaunchPad that meets your needs. For reference, the MSP430F1xx series are some of the first MSP430 devices out there. Although great parts themselves, we have made steady improvements to the MSP430 DNA on newer parts.
  • There is nothing in particular that meets my needs about this chip.

I have inherited this project with a PCB built in with this MCU. Before I start working on it I would like to to play with some of the features on this MCU.

Can you link me to something that is fairly close to this MCU and has a launchpad so that I dont do alot of damage on the PCB itself.

    Thank you,

    Rajan Joshi
  • Hello Rajan,

We are not going to have a Launchpad that is exactly like this device as it is an older architecture. So any Launchpad I point you to will have different peripheral sets, power structure, and clocking structure differences. Your two closest Launchpads with most of the features et of the part will be either the MSP430FR5969 or the MSP430F5529. These do not have DACs though. if that is needed for your application, the MSP430FR2355 could be a good fit, but has less memory.

that's about all we have in line of launchpads, but other devices could fit the bill. They just are not on our Launchpad evaluation platform.
  • Thank you for your help Jace !
  • Olimex has an F1611 proto board (MSP430-P1611). I just checked and it's still listed.

I used these for a project many(!) years ago, and they worked fine. The UART is RS-232 (not USB). They don't have an on-board programmer, so you may have to buy one of those too (I used the Olimex programmer, but maybe TI's USB-FET would work).

Apparently they're on vacation after this week, so think fast (:-)).
