MSP430i2040: Hardware connection diagram or schematic for 3 phase energy meter using MSP430i2040 with load connected via CT

Part Number: MSP430I2040
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-TWOPHASEMETER-I2040, MSP430F6779A, MSP-EM-DESIGN-CENTER

hello sir,

i require your help to have hardware connection diagram for 3 phase energy meter using msp430i2040 controller and iuse CT for current channel.  here we require connection specially for CT in 3 phase energy meter

regards,

kinjal

  • Hello Kinjal,

Thanks for your post. I see from your forum activity that you've been asking about MSP430F6779A and now about MSP430i2040, and I'm happy to see your interest in our MSP430 devices with integrated Sigma Delta ADCs. For a three-phase energy meter, I wouldn't recommend using the MSP430i2040. Why? Well, it only features four SD ADC channels, which means it can only support configurations up to two-phase. One voltage channel and one current channel make up one phase. Now, if you have a common voltage input and want to measure three current channels, the MSP430i2040 can handle this configuration too. We have the Low-Cost Single/Dual-Phase Isolated Electricity Measurement Reference Design (TIDM-TWOPHASEMETER-I2040) that showcases these two configurations using MSP430i2040.

An alternative would be to use three MSP430i2040 devices for the three phases. Otherwise, we recommend using the MSP430F6779A for three-phase configurations because it features seven SD ADC channels.

Have you heard about our new Energy Measurement Design Center (EMDC) for MSP430 MCUs (MSP-EM-DESIGN-CENTER) that can accelerate your design and development time? EMDC features an easy-to-use GUI with example projects that allow users to quickly make changes based on their designs, generate code, calibrate their system, and view results measured by the MSP430 running the Energy Measurement software library. You can learn more about EMDC from the following thread and links.
