MSP430I2041: Input Channel Selection - SD24INCTLx

Part Number: MSP430I2041

Hi,

I have a question concerning the SD24 ADC.The user's guide of the MSP430i2041 explains in chapter 13.3 the bits of the SD24INCTLx registers. It looks like the 3 SDINCHx bits don't do anything except selecting the temperature sensor. Does this mean there is a fixed connection between the physical ADC input and the conversion register, i.e. SD24MEM0 reads always Input A0 etc.? In other literature like the MSP430x2xx user's guide (SLAU144J ), chapter 27.3.3 it looks like the input is selectable with the SDINCHx bits. Is this because there are devices with several separate ADCs and others with multiplexed ones?

Best regards

Jan

  • Hi Jan,

yes you are right. one SD24MEMx register si asaciated with each SD24 channel.
This is also shown in Section 13.2.8 of SLAU335 and Figure 13-1 SD Block Diagram in the Introduction section 13.1.

The SD24 ADC on the MSP430x2xx has a different architecture as you've also assumed, this is best shown in the block diagram in Figure 27-1: It shows that different input channels for each SD24 channel are multiplexed for one SD24MEMx.

Please let me know if further clarification is desired from your side.

    Best regards,
    Britta
