MSP430FR2433: LPM3.5 current with/without external crystal

Part Number: MSP430FR2433

The MSP430FR2433 data sheet specifies an LPM3.5 current of 730nA when using an external 32768 crystal.

Is LPM3.5 is possible using the internal oscillator instead of external Xtal?

In this case, is current draw the same as using an external Xtal?

  • Hello,

The only internal oscillator available in LPM3.5 is the VLO. The VLO has a typical frequency of 10kHz and is not very precise. Thus, if you require an accurate time base in LPM3.5 with an internal oscillator, you would need to run a software trim routine on the VLO. Check out the application report below on how to do this.

The VLO is very low power. LPM3 with the VLO is around 1000nA. LPM3.5 would be lower. I would expect the power to be comparable to the crystal.
