I faced the same problem as Dave described here:

Trying to recover, I could install a CDC USB driver and get the command line programmer connect to the MSP-FET430UIF, but it returns an Interface Communication Error

Additional programming or recovering attempts all fail with the same error. Only reaction is green power LED is on.

Trying to install the TUSBWINVCP_Win7-64 (umpusbvista) USB-driver, that is needed for V2 DLL with an older IAR EW version also fails.

Is there any advice or recommendation to un-brick my MSP-FET430UIF?

    Hell stemaka,

    I recommend downloading the latest version of an alternate tool to see if it will go through the FET FW upgrade process. Try the newest version of CCS or Uniflash. Alternatively, you can try the third party software from Elprotronic Lite FET-PRO 430.

    I tried both Uniflash and CCS but both cannot communicate at all with MSP-FET.

    Although I'm able to install CDC USB-driver the 'real' communication layer to the MSP-FET seems to be broken.

    Alternatively a VCP USB-driver (if needed by any of the tools) also cannot be installed.

    I have another programmer with me (FlashPro430) but only borrowed. So I would be able to re-flash the MSP430F1612 inside MPS-FET if I had a complete FW image for it.

    Can anyone provide this?

    On the other hand there is also the TUSB3410 device inside, could this have been corrupted during the FW up-/downgrade process too?

    Gathering some information here, which IDE and version were you using with this device before you had an issue?

    Hello Jace,

    I'm using IAR EW v4.20.1 and the FET ist MSP-FET430UIF V1.4a.

    With upcoming Win7 a had to update USB drivers for FET with TUSBWINVCP_Win7-64 package, driver v6.5.9017.0.

    Hello Stemaka,

    I spoke with our Tools team and we think we know what happened here. The version of IAR you are using is quite old and most likely only recognizes older MSP-FET430UIF drivers (like USB-VCP) and debugger firmware. the newest MSP-FLASHER updated your fest to USB-CDC interface as well as the fet FW to the newest version. This of course is the wrong type of interface for the old version of IAR and likely the newest FW won't work with that old IAR version. Now, we are assuming here you tried to do a downgrade the fet to V2 driver as this allows USB-VCP. By doing this, what we believe the situation is that you a MSP-FET430UIF that has the newest VCP drivers on it (TUSB programmed), but no FW on the F1612. Since it s anewer VCP driver, the older IAR is not recognizing it.

    Our recommendation is to upgrade to the newest IAR and to the newer MSP-FET. If this cannot be done, then it is suggested if you have another programmer, to dedicate it to that version of IAR and never try to upgrade or use other programmers/IDEs with it.

    Exactly that is what I think too, therefore I was asking for a FW image for F1612 that I could flash with a second pogrammer.

    Yes I would like to, but there is not 'old' FET available for purchase any more!

    Hello Stemaka,

    Attached is a FW image of the F1612 on the MSP-FET430UIF that may work for you, but we offer no guarantees here. This should be the default image that is downloaded when downgrading from V3 to V2, but I am unsure if this will work out for your current situation. If this does work for you, then I suggest to keep this FET dedicated to that older version of IAR if you cannot upgrade your tools. If this doe snot work, then I can only reiterate the recommendations above about upgrading your tool chain.

    Hello Jace,

    this FW image I already found as part of the Downgrade Tool inside the newest IAR EW trial version.

    Indeed this image does not fix the problem, as it is obviously only a part of the complete F1612 FW image (the part that differs in V2 and V3).

    But during the downgrade process it seems that other parts of the FW got corrupted as well.

    So I  would need the complete FW image in V2
