MSP430 Starter Kit

Hello,

I want to use a ready hardware for my project with MSP430 CPU on it, I am thinking of using a starter KIT like MSP-FET430U48, but I can not be sure if it contains a CPU on it or should I buy the CPU separately.

Can you suggest me any ready hardware modules?

Hi Alphan,

the FET-Boards were intended for code development. The come with everything you need to get started (including 2 microcontollers); have a look at the kit contents here: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/msp-fet430u48.html.

If you want something with more than just the MCU (i.e. buttons, trims, LCD, ..) you should have a look at the experimenter boards (http://focus.ti.com/mcu/docs/mcuprodmsptoolsw.tsp?sectionId=95&tabId=1203&familyId=342&toolTypeId=1#EXPboards). Pls note that you will have to buy a seperate MSP-FET430UIF JTAG interface in this case.

I think you should take a look at the LaunchPad http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/msp-exp430g2.html

It has a 3-digit price tag. (2 of the 3 are after decimal point).

Is this ok if I use this board as an end product, features of this board is more than enough for me and I will develop another card and connect with this board. I think that should not be a problem. Right?

Hi Alphan,

well, it's your money! The boards were very expensive because of the ZIF-Socket (Zero Insertion Force). Maybe you should look at the product range from OLIMEX (http://www.olimex.com/dev/msp_left.htm); they have a broad selection of MSP430 header boards.

Then simply buy an MSP-FET430UIF, download (buy) the latest version of CCS (http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/ccstudio.html?DCMP=dsp_ccs_v4&HQS=Other+OT+ccs) and you're ready to start.

Budget is not a problem for this project, I think I will go with the experiment boards from TI.

I will consider other products from olimex also,
