CC430F5137: Device hangs after soft reset, e.g. via watchdog

Part Number: CC430F5137

Hi,

I am not sure how to explain my problem, but I will try:

We have a batch of CC430 based custom boards. Everything seems working fine, besides one issue: On some units (~30%) we encounter a weird behavior in two probably related circumstances:

- Device hangs on soft-reset, e.g. using Watchdog or POR

- Device hangs on calling user application from custom boot-loader. The process hangs after: (reinterpret_cast<void (*)(void)>(0x9000))(); which should jump to the user code. Software loading succeeds because power cycling recovers the issue and user application is launched as expected.

Software-reset using BOR (PMMCTL0 = PMMPW + PMMSWBOR + (PMMCTL0 & 0x0003);) works fine but cannot be used because we need to keep one GPIO pulled high during reset for power management.

The weird thing is that everything always works fine on some boards while other always fail. So it is something reproducible. I have checked the hardware but cannot find any differences. Power consumption also is as expected.

What could cause this issue? Could it be that the chip accidentally enters the BSL?

Sorry for the vague description and thanks for your help.

Best,

Henry

  • Henry,

sorry but I'm bit confused does the RESET event e.g. WDT password violation (PUC) or a SW POR cause the hang or does the jump from BSL area to the user code cause it?

When you say hang does it mean part does not react on interrupts anymore? Do roughly know what current consumption the device have in this state?

Finally the CC430F5137 has an ERRATA sheet were all ERRATAs already checked to be not cause of the hang?

    Best regards,
    Dietmar

  • Hello Henry,

this thread has been silent for a while. Did Dietmar's suggestion solve your issue/ With no response soon, I'll assume your issue is resolved and close the post.
