MSP432P401R: Powering the MSP432 externally

Part Number: MSP432P401R

Hello,

I am a Junior in Electrical Engineering working on a group project which requires the use of the MSP432P401R microcontroller.

For our project, we are controlling electromagnets via a MOSFET switching power circuit; ultimately, the electromagnet power circuit, some cooling fans, and the MSP432 will fit in a box and both be powered from a single 12V AC to DC wall brick.

This raises my question, how do I power the MSP432 from an external power supply?

My first instinct was to use a USB-to-MicroUSB cable, with the USB end connected to some +5V power circuit… However, I could not find how the USB D+ and D- should be connected, nor what type of current limitations into the +5V Vcc, D+, and/or D- connections I should consider.

Then my next step from previous forum posts was to look at the “Hardware Design Files”, however I am getting a little lost in the schematics trying to understand exactly where the USB power and Data connections are on the schematic(s) and what jumpers, if any, would have to be removed and connections made to give the MSP432 board the 3.3V of required power.

Any ideas on which method would be the best, and how to achieve it (in detail, if possible)?

Ben
