MSP430FR5994: I/O configuration when HiZ input

Part Number: MSP430FR5994

Hi all,

With the configuration shown below, VDD_3.0 V and VDD_1.8 V are always on and the A-side and B-side are set to HiZ by setting OE of TXS0108 Low.
How do I set the I/O of the MSP430 to achieve lower power consumption including leak current from I/Os?
If the MSP430 I/O remains INPUT mode, the input becomes indeterminate. Should I switch to OUTPUT mode?
If OUTPUT mode is selected, output is Low or High?

Regards,
Toshi

  • Hi,

You should set the pin to output low mode when unsed to save power.

  • You probably want to leave them as inputs but engage the pullups (PxREN register). That way when they do come on (OE) you won't get electrical conflicts.

Pull up or down? If you can guess a "usual" setting for each pin then match that, but for a bus translator you probably can't guess, so just pick one. The pullups/downs are pretty weak (20K?) so you won't be hurt much either way.
