MSP430G2452: CapTIvate Design Center GUI support for 430BOOST-SENSE1 Hardware?

Part Number: MSP430G2452
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CAPTIVATE-PHONE

TI Friends & Family,

Realizing our older PIN-OSC (cap touch) method used on the 430BOOST-SENSE1, we've essentially replaced this with the FR2633-based kits and new GUI.  However, our customer is still very interested in using the 430BOOST-SENSE1 as a prototype for a thumbwheel application, since it is already in the form factor of their intended design.  That being said, they would still migrate to the FR26xx for mass production, but for ease of use, would prefer to prove out the marketing and other requirements using the BOOST-SENSE1.

Question, do we have support for the 430BOOST-SENSE1 using the new CapTIvate Design Studio GUI vs. the older cap touch gui which was originally supporting the BOOST-SENSE1?

The new GUI is much easier and friendly.

Let us know please!

TY,

CY

  • Hello Chris,

Good to hear from you :) Also, I'm very glad to hear that your customer will be using the MSP430FR26xx for production.

To answer your question, unfortunately the 430BOOST-SENSE1 is not supported by the CapTIvate Design Center. If they like the wheel form-factor of the 430BOOST-SENSE1, they should be happy to know that there's a wheel on the CAPTIVATE-PHONE adapter board included in the MSP CapTIvate MCU Development Kit (MSP-CAPT-FR2633). Please encourage them to order this kit rather than the 430BOOST-SENSE1.

Then, after they've finished the evaluation stage, they can leverage the CapTIvate Technology Guide to learn more about Starting a New Design and also about Sliders and Wheels. I hope this helps!

    Regards,

    James

  • Hey James!

Likewise, my friend.  Appreciate your quick reply.

So, not surprisingly we have introduced the CAPTIVATE-PHONE board with the thumbwheel resident already.  However, as you've illustrated above, that board has a pretty large form factor, so we were hopeful something might exist to support the older and smaller BOOST board.  We understand though and will keep them focused on the new tools and toolchain.  Of course, any additional thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks again!

    -Chris

  • Hi Chris,

I definitely understand their concern about the form factor. Although the size of the CAPTIVATE-PHONE board is larger, our goal is for customers to quickly and easily evaluate our CapTIvate solution for many different applications. Assuming the legacy BOOST board was supported, they would still need to build a prototype board at some point. For that task, we provide extensive documentation on how to do that in the CapTIvate Technology Guide. I'll pass along your feedback to the CapTIvate team as well.

    Regards,

    James
