MSP430FR5969-SP: Minimum Storage Temperature driving factor

What is/are the system parameter(s) that is/are driving the -55°C minimum storage temperature limit?

Is there potential for a specific kind of latent damage from exceeding the minimum storage temperature limit or is it merely the temperature the part was tested to? Are there FRAM memory degradation considerations or something similar that could manifest over time? We would like to understand a bit more about what is driving this parameter. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Generally it is CTE based, things shrink at different rates which puts stress on the components - i.e., you can shear a bond off, or the chip can actually come loose.

I should point out that CTE is "Coefficient of Thermal Expansion" not Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, which is all you get if you google CTE.

The main driver for this restriction is the FRAM data retention is not warranted below -55°C.

Thanks for the reply. For further clarification, is the potential for FRAM data loss a permanent risk (due to irreversible damage to the cells) after exposing the device to temperatures below the minimum storage condition, or would re-programming the processor "re-assert" the desired FRAM memory states and mitigate that risk?

Colin,
I do not have direct information on physical reason for issues going colder.
However, we have completed qualifications testing retention.
Device has passed 500 unbiased -65C to 150C temp cycles with no adverse affects observed in post temp cycle electrical testing.

Reliability affects of long term storage at lower temperatures has not been assessed.
