Linux/MSP430G2553: I can't connect to my MSP430. How can I connect to it?

Part Number: MSP430G2553

Tool/software: Linux

I checked my Network Utility tool, and my microcontroller is disconnected.  I am not sure how to turn it on or whether or not I can use the microcontroller with my MacOS (currently Mojave).  When I did lsusb, I was able to find the bus number, device number, and ID associated with my micrcontroller.  How do I turn my micro controller on?  Thanks!
