Hello,

I am trying to get up and running with the MSP430FR5969 dev board. I am able to run the Out of Box Demo GUI successfully. However, when I navigate to Code Composer Studio, create a new project with appropriate chip selected, and attempt to debug and run the LED blink starter code provided through CCS, and receive error: "Error connecting to the target: Unknown device". Can you please help me get passed this so that I can run the LED blink starter code on my launchpad?

I am running Windows 10 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3, with CCS v.5

Update - I have set up UniFlash and I am now using a workflow in which I build code in CCS, then switch over to PowerShell and run a command to flash to the board. However, I really need to be able to flash from within CCS. Thanks

Are the jumpers of J13 set correctly?

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply. All jumpers are in-place except for RTS and CTS. I am able to successfully flash using Uniflash so whatever is causing the issue must be specific to CCS

Unknown device errors are related to either the lack of proper VCC on the MCU or improper JTAG/SPY connection.
How about you copy the "ccxml" target config file from the out-of-the-box example into your new project?

My copy of CCS v5.5 is dated late 2014, and the build date on my Rev 1.6 FR5969 Launchpad is mid-2014. That Launchpad was "de-comissioned" (refused service) by CCS v8.1. (My Rev 2.0 Launchpad still works.)

I'm sure the Historians here know for sure, but I'm wondering if:
1) The support for the FR5969 (Launchpad) was only half-there in CCSv5 or
2) You have a Rev 2.0 Launchpad, and there's something different (from Rev 1.6) about it that CCSv5 doesn't know/understand.

Short answer: This may be a good time to upgrade CCS.

Hey Bruce, you nailed it ! I upgraded to CCS v8 and I am now able to successfully flash starter code onto my MSP430. Always a relief when a simple upgrade solves the problem as compared to having to track down some obscure driver issue. Thank you very much
