CCS/EVM430-FR6047: HSPLL and SAPH error

Part Number: EVM430-FR6047
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I was using the previous version of demo code (UltrasonicWaterFR604x02_10_00_07) and previous version of application(USS_1_70_00) with which i could successfully connect the evaluation module to the USS app and everything was working fine.

Since there was a new update to both the app and demo code.I decided to use the updated demo code and USS app.

While I was working on the new version,I got errors which i had never seen before.I am attaching a screenshot of the error

Could i get help regarding this issue as soon as possible?

Best Regards,

Divya H

  • Hello Divya,

Could you please provide a little more detail on your setup:

    1) What changes have you made to the out-of-box water demo?
    2) Just to be sure, what versions of the USS Library and water demo are you using?
    3) Do you get these errors immediately when you connect to the EVM or is it after a "Request Update" is initiated?
    4) What EVM are you using?
    5) CCS or IAR?

    Best regards,

    Matt
  • Hi Matt,

1)I didn't change anything ,i just loaded the new version of water demo application .
    2)Currently i am using :USSSWLib 02_20_00_15 and UltrasonicWaterFR604x_02_20_00_04
3)I get these errors the moment i connect to EVM in USS app.
    4)I am using EVM430-FR6047 evaluation module(Rev.A)
    5)CCS workbench(Code Composer Studio 8.3.0)

    Best Regards,

  • Divya,

I just attempted to recreate your setup as best as I could, using the same demo, library, and CCS versions as you but was not able to recreate the error printout. What version of the USS Design Center GUI are you using to connect to the EVM?

    -Matt
  • Hi Matt,

I am currently using Ultrasonic Sensing Design Center version 02_20_00_15(Water Mode).

LED2 on the evaluation module is ON.

    Divya H

  • Divya,

I am going to loop in a member of the USS applications team to further assist you in determine the root cause of your issue. Thank you for your patience.

    Best regards,

    Matt
  • Hi Matt,

Hope to hear from the USS application team soon.

  • Hello Divya,

I do not see the error on the boards I've tested. This error may be getting reported due to the HSPLL tolerance being set to tight in the updated firmware(2.20.00.04). In USS_userConfig.h, line 362, try setting the tolerance to a higher value. The previous firmware had this set to 0.5, so you could start with this and reduce until the error returns. The tolerance could be different for each oscillator that is used and this should be set appropriately. This should likely be defaulted differently to ensure wider compatibility. Let me know if this fixes the error for you.
  • Hi Eddie,

I set the tolerance to 0.5 as you suggested and the error still exists.

While going through the previous USS_userconfig.h ,i realized the USS_HSPLL_FREQ_IN_MHZ  was set to 80 while in the new firmware USS_userconfig.h,it is set to 72.

So would u suggest to change the HSPLL frequency to 80 or to increase the HSPLL tolerance?

    Regards,

    Divya H

  • Divya,

This sounds almost like it could be a compilation error.

Could you also try loading the binary .txt file directly without compiling?  You can do this using Uniflash or Elprotronic Flasher Tool. The binary can be found in the directory below.  After loading this file, please try with the GUI again and let me know if you still receive an error.

    C:\ti\msp\UltrasonicWaterFR604x_02_20_00_04\image

Also, can you tell me what silicon version is on your EVM?  Rev. B device should have a sticker on top which says "rev. B".  Rev. A should be marked directly on the topside of the IC if Rev. A.

  • Divya,

I have an update on this topic. As I was not able to reproduce this issue on my boards, I was able to find an old board which still used the rev. A silicon. This reproduced your issue for me. I don't know exactly what is causing the issue in the software update, but we are no longer supporting rev. A. Please confirm that your board has rev. A silicon. Rev. A silicon was only around before we released the part, so I assume we must have sent you the sample EVM before release(correct me if I'm wrong). I would recommend that you upgrade the IC to revision B. You can order samples from TI and swap the IC on the board or order a new board from the TI e-store which will include the rev. B already soldered on. Links for both the IC samples and board are below.

  • Hi Eddie,

Yes,you are absolutely right,I have Rev.A silicon on EVM board.

Is Rev.B IC pin-compatible with the previous EVM board?

    Best Regards,

    Divya H

  • Divya,

Yes, they are pin for pin compatible.  You can simply swap the IC on the EVM.
