CCS/EVM430-FR6047: DEBUG WARNING

Part Number: EVM430-FR6047
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6047

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I am facing an issue while debugging the code using an evaluation board EVM430-FR6047(REVISION A) with code composer studio. It is always showing a warning.

WARNING - Earlier version of silicon detected.

Can you please help me to resolve this issue?

  • Hello Sreenath,

There is a Revision B of the device which is now being sent out with orders of the EVM430-FR6047. CCS is just letting you know that there is a newer version of silicon available. If you'd like to order the newest silicon, you can get samples at www.ti.com/.../samplebuy and replace the chip on your board with the newest version.

    Best regards,

    Matt
  • Is there any major difference between Revision A and Revision B  evaluation module?

  • I need to know whether the only difference between the Revision A and Revision B of EVM430FR6047 is the change in the Chipset(MSP430FR6047)?
    Can you confirm it please?
    Thank you
  • Hello Sreenath,

Thank you for your patience as I reach out to the owners of that device to determine what the major revision differences were.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Sreenath,
There are couple of things that need to be clarified.
Firstly, it seems that the EVM430-FR6047 that you have has a Revision A of the device. These EVMs were samples that were sent to you much earlier in time. During the last 12 months, we have replaced all the EVMs with the newest silicon that is Revision B. It is recommended that you perform all your evaluation with the Revision B silicon only. We do not support Revision A silicon anymore. The quickest way for you to get updated is to procure latest silicon through www.ti.com/.../samplebuy and replace Revision A silicon with Revision B silicon on your EVM430-FR6047.

Secondly, regarding the changes between Revision A and Revision B is summarized as follows
    1. Revision A is part of the early samples program for very early evaluation by customers. Whereas, Revision B is the final silicon released to market in Dec 2017.
    2. Revision B has been fully tested by TI for best performance of water-flow measurements. Revision A silicon was not fully tested for best performance.
    3. There were some minor bug fixes on silicon made in Revision B. Revision A still has those bugs and we do not want you to run into any issues during your evaluation and eventual production.

In summary, we request you move from Revision A to Revision B for best performance and the associated support on the EVM430-FR6047, our SW library and other content that has been made available for the application of water-flow measurement with MSP430FR6047. Thanks

  • Hi Kripa,
I have some more queries that i am going to list below

    1) I need to know whether the revision B silicon is pin compatible with version A?
    2) Is it possible to get the device errata of Revision B and Revision A?
3)What are the specific improvements in Revision B compared to Rev A?

    Regards
  • Sreenath,
    Here are the answers
    1. Yes, they are exactly pin-pin compatible since they are essentially the same devices to begin with, with one being samples and the other released to the market as a finished product.
    2. Revision B and Revision A errata document (the same for both revisions) is available www.ti.com/.../slaz692k.pdf
    3. These are improvements made to core IP that are very proprietary to TI and will not be shared to any outside entities. So sorry, we cannot discuss the improvements. However, we recommend that you only use Revision B moving forward in your evaluation. Thanks

    Kripa
  • Hi,

When i went through the Errata file it seems like the issues present in Revision A exist in Rev B as well. So what exactly are the changes in Rev B ?

       Thank you

  • Vipin,
Yes, you are correct, from the peripherals standpoint all issues seen in Rev A silicon will be seen in Rev B silicon as well. However, as previously mentioned here are important things that need to considered as fixes from Rev A to Rev B

    1. Revision B has been fully tested by TI for best performance of water-flow measurements. Revision A silicon was not fully tested for best performance
    2. There were some minor bug fixes on silicon made in Revision B. These bugs are not necessarily peripheral specific, these are bugs that are proprietary to TI and we will not publish this information.
    3. When you use the MSP430FR604x family of devices to measure flow-rate, you should absolutely not see any issues.

In summary, we want to you move to Rev B ASAP, so that we can ensure you do not run into any problems with what are you trying to measure. Thanks

    Kripa
  • Hi,

Is REV B of MSP430FR6047IPZR  available at Mouser Electronics?

    Thank you

  • Hi Sreenath,

Yes it is. Mouser Electronics only has REV B silicon in their stock.

    Best regards,

    Matt
