Recently, I noticed an issue with using USB-CDC on MSP430 MCU with Windows 10 computer. The MCU firmware code enables USB CDC virtual COM port when connected to a Mac/Windows host computer. The COM port enumerates fine on MAC, but on Windows computer there is a ‘yellow bang’ sign (see below) next to the COM port entry on Device Manager.

Since we have many platforms using MSP430 MCU, we would like to resolve this issue at the earliest. Could you please let me know if there is a MSP430 USB-CDC driver for windows 10 ?

We are using MSP430F5528. The USB interface enumerates fine on Mac, but on windows machine the COM Port entry in device manager has the yellow bang and Driver status says, “ Code 10: Device could not start”.

Win10 should automatically enumerate CDC device without any drivers/files, same as Linux and Mac. I guess that there is some enumeration problem related to software. Can you post your CDC descriptor here?

In Win 10, it should automatically work without drivers. I did find some threads from 2015 where there were some issues in Windows, but should all be resolved now. Are the windows systems up to date?

Hello Greg,

The USB Drivers in Win10 have been moved from the end device needing to supply/install to Windows handling all of this (aka no control on our side). You could try deleting the MSP430 related entries in the Device Manager (click View -> Show Hidden Entries) with no MSP430 device plugged in. then also try a different USB port. This will force Windows to re-install the USB CDC drivers.
