MSP430FR5949: MSP430FR5969 code/image migrated onto FR5949/5959

Part Number: MSP430FR5949

Champs,

I am asking this for our customer.

We have FR5969 codes and images (.txt), but for physical-size issue, we will need to change to smaller package like FR5959 or 5949.

(We are sure they only use a few pins that FR5959/FR5949 already have.)

Questions:

1. Can FR5969 image (.txt) be directly programmed onto FR5949 or FR5959 without any other action?

(We are asking this because the original engineer for this code is not available. We hope to migrate this with minimum efforts as possible.)

2. If (1) is not feasible, then they will need to re-build the code, right?

Do they only need to change the FR5969.cmd to FR5959.cmd or FR5949.cmd in the codes and then re-build the code?

The only difference is the crystal used. if only LF crystal is used, then we need only use FR5949. IS our understanding correct?

  • Hi Wayne,

The MSP430FR5949/59/69 are same series and listed in one datasheet. They have same FRAM and RAM size. So the registers configuration and .cmd file is same. The main differences are Clock System and the number of General I/O which is listed in below Device Comparison Table.

So, if the clock configuration and pin used is same, then the codes and images (.txt) can be directly reused.
