RTOS/MSP432P401R: MSP432 TI-RTOS version #

Part Number: MSP432P401R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSBIOS

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Hello,

I have a question regarding MSP432 and TI-RTOS.

According to: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/tirtos/index.html the site states that the MSP432P4 TI-RTOS is bundled in the SimpleLink SDK.

The latest SimpleLink SDK can be downloaded from http://www.ti.com/tool/download/SIMPLELINK-MSP432-SDK . I’ve downloaded version 2.40.00.10.

As far as I can see, the sys/bios version in this package is 6.75.00 (see BIOS.h definition “ti_sysbios_BIOS_version”). I did not find any SYS/BIOS versions outside of the SimpleLink package which are qualified for the MSP432 MCU. The list of all sys/bios versions can be viewed here: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/sysbios/

I cannot figure out how to get an TI-RTOS version from the SimpleLink package equal to the ones listed in http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/tirtos/index.html.

TI-RTOS
2.21.01.08

Is SYS/BIOS version 6.75.00.XX the newest package which can be used with the MSP432 TI-RTOS? How does TI-RTOS version 2.21.01.08 factor in?

Also, what is the best method to create a new TI-RTOS project on the MSP432?

Thanks,

Robert

  • I can't talk to the latest version of Ti-RTOS, but the best way to create a new project is to start with the closest example to what you want to do.

  • Hi Robert,

Look in the "Documentation Overview" doc (link is in the SDK Release Notes or on the highlighted link on the SL SDK page)

You can then click on the TI-RTOS Kernel (SYS/BIOS) release notes to get the version.

The version is at the top and the version/date are at the bottom of this page.

I'd recommend staying with the SYS/BIOS version that is shipped in the SDK. You can use a newer version, but he have not validated against it. If their is a major issue with a release, we'll address it in the next quarters SDK.

Regarding the TI-RTOS product...while still supported, there is no active development on it. For MSP432 users, the SimpleLink SDK is highly recommended over the TI-RTOS product. For MSP430 users, we recommend TI-RTOS for MSP430 (previously called TI-RTOS for MSP43x) since the MSP430 is not under the SimpleLink umbrella.

Note the SimpleLink SDK has TI-RTOS source code and examples for the MSP432...actually more than the TI-RTOS for MSP43x has.

The SimpleLink SDK is really a superset of the older TI-RTOS products.

I hope that cleared things up a bit.

    Todd
