MSP430G2553: MSP430 - caps for external oscillator

Hi there.

We are using an MSP430G2553 chip with an external low frequency oscillator (32.768K) connected to XIN and XOUT. What are the ideal values for the capacitors connecting XIN / XOUT to ground?

Chris,

The cap load depends on the oscillator. When you select the oscillator, there should be a cap load requirement in the datasheet. Please check the OSC datasheet.

Hi Jovi,

Thanks. Are there any data sheets / app notes that show me a reference application circuit for the MSP chips? I have some general questions.

I see the schematics for the dev board. Is that the best circuit to reference?

There's some advantage to choosing a crystal rated for a capacitance that matches with one of the XCAP values. [Ref F2 User Guide (SLAU144J) Sec 5.3.4]

I've used the AB26TRQ-32.768KHZ-T (12.5pF), but there are many good choices.
