MSP430FR6047: EVM430-FR6047 (i.e. MSP430FR6047) Ultrasonic Sensing Evaluation Module not working properly.

Part Number: EVM430-FR6047
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6047

Hello,

1) I am using  EVM430-FR6047 (i.e. MSP430FR6047 ) Ultrasonic Sensing Evaluation Module for water flow measurement with clamp on sensors as shown in the following figure. I have sensor 1 as a down stream and sensor 2 as a up stream.

2) On EVM board I see following things.:-

LED1 is flashing Green
LED3 is constantly Red.

D201: Green
D202: Flashing Green.
D203: fade flashing Red.

What are those signs?

3) I am not able to receive any TOF, Flow rate values. I am getting error as "No signal detected in up and downstream channel". I varied my flow, parameters but nothing worked. Following images describes my parameters, errors & ADC plot

4) Is the EVM only compatible with Audiowell type pipes in which the transducers are in contact with water? If yes then why so? If not then what parameters or steps I need to change to get the result?

Thank you.

  • Hello,

Thanks for your post. Please check below items:

     1. Make sure the hardware connections are correct. You can use oscilloscope to observe the input and output channel to see if there exists

     pulse signals.

     2. If there exists correct pulse in input channel, adjusting the  "Gap between pulse start and ADC capture (us)" or distance between two transducers to make sure ADC won't miss the input signal. The effective ADC captured signal should be as below picture.

    3. The last step is changing the Gain to ensure the signal amplitude is about 800.

  • Hello,

    1) I checked the hardware connection...its good. Where on the EVM board I can connect the oscilloscope to see the input and output signals?

    2) I adjusted / varied "Gap between pulse start and ADC capture (us) and Gain values" but it didn't work

    3) Is the EVM430-FR6047 only applicable with the transducers contacted with water ? All demo cases, online examples shows audiowell pipe only. Does this EVM works with the clamp on (non intrusive / not submerged) sensors as shown in my case?

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

    1) You can test the signal of CH0 and CH1 as below picture. See EVM430-FR6047 Hardware Guide (Rev. A) for more details.

    2)  Before adjusting the "Gap between pulse start and ADC capture (us) " and  Gain, you need ensure the signal exists. The "Gap between pulse start and ADC capture (us) " should adjust around the sound propagation time in your pipe.

    3) Yes, EVM430-FR6047 is water meter demo. There should be water in pipe. Because sound velocity in gas is much different from velocity in water. The transducers contacted with water is not necessary. This EVM works with the clamp on (non intrusive / not submerged) sensors as shown in my case.

  • How about your issue? Does your transducer placement meet one of below configurations? I didn't see reflector in the above picture.
