MSP430F5659: UART Enable bit remains at 0 when set to 1

The code below is used to  enable the UART port.

But from the register view in the tools it doesn’t get set to 1. It stays at 0 all the time.

Also cleartRs485TxIfg() is not able to to clear the Tx interrupts.

We are using IAR tools

The same code works for our MSP430F5458 and 5638 designs.

Any suggestions?
