MSP432E401Y: PTP IEEE1588V2 implementation on a M4 core mcu

Part Number: MSP432E401Y
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA2

I am about to start implementing a IEEE1588 V2 solution using a mcu with a M4 core, thus i was looking for a TI PTP stack that would help me to have something as coding reference, I found a related to a question made in the query https://e2e.ti.com/.../746050, is there a PTP implementation example yet?

  • Hey Aldebaran,

I will check with Sai Reddy and see if there are any updates for you.

    Thanks,
    Seong
  • Hi Kim,

Did you found out if there was an update about this IEEE1588 PTP stack?

    Thanks,

    Aldebaran Ortega.
  • Hello Aldebaran,

We currently don't have an example that demonstrates PTP on MSP432E4. However it is still on our roadmap.

If it's not propriety information, can you share the details of the application. We will use this feedback while developing the PTP solution.

    Thanks,
    Sai
  • Hi,

I wanted to develop an application that has IEEE1588v2 PTP and that also uses IEEE802.1AS gPTP Profile, i am aiming to develop a PTP solution that involves a PTP stack supported by HW (PHY timestamping and PTP clock), i would need a TI PTP stack solution with all or some of the characteristics previously mentioned for the end of july this year. Im using a TDA2 SoC for this.
  • Hello Aldebaran,

Thanks for your interest in TI solution!

As mentioned earlier, we currently don't have an example that demonstrates PTP on MSP432E4 and as far as I know we don't have plans to complete a solution in the time period you are looking for.

Also the timestamping of Ethernet Packets on MSP432E4 occurs in the MAC not PHY.

Another TI solution: Sitara has IEEE1588 where timestamping is done in MAC. If you need timestamping in PHY then external PHY will need to attached.

    Thanks,
    Sai
