CCS/MSP430FR2633: Enable/ dissable the proximity sensor.

Part Number: MSP430FR2633

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello,

I am using captivate -phone board. Sensors used are numeric keypad and proximity sensor. I would like to know how to enable and disable the proximity sensor.

  • Hi Gourav,
    Thanks for using our technology.
I understand that you are using the Phone board with the original SW. Right
Could you give me some additional info on what your intention is?
What do you mean by "enable/disable", during the operation or for different use cases? Is there a specific reason you need that?

    Regards
    Kostas
  • Hello Kostas,
I need to turn on the led when in range (invalid touch) and turn off the led (valid touch). Dissable the proximity on press of a button (0 to 9 and *) and enable on pressing "#" button. I have managed to increase the sensitivity to 2 cm (conversion gain:-175 conversion count:-2500) but how can I increase the sensitivity in to 6 cm.
  • Hallo Gourav,
    thanks for the response.
I understand that you are using the Phone board with you own SW. On the phone board you are using only the numeric keypad and the Proximity sensor. Right?
What you mean by invalid and valid touch?
    My understanding is:
When you approach your hand the proximity will be detected and a LED will switch ON and stay on as long as the hand is in proximity. When a button (0-9 and *) is pressed during this time the LED will switch OFF. This LED shall stay OFF as long as the button # is not pressed.
    Is my understanding correct?

We do recommend to use proximity distance around 2-3 cm.
Some basic information on parameters influencing the proximity performance can be found also:
    e2e.ti.com/.../738684

To get the maximum sensitivity of the system, the Gain has to be set to 100. The conversion count value you are using is far beyond what we recommend. It makes the system very sensitive to environmental influences and may cause false detections.
In this board the proximity sensor is designed in a way to be used also as guard, do you need the guard function?
For better proximity performance I would recommend to test also the BSWP board, which has also a Proximity sensor.

What is the application? Are you going to use this board in the final application or will you design your own?
For more information on this specific board please check also:

    Waiting for your response

    Best Regards
    Kostas
  • Hallo Gourav,
it has been a while since my last response. I have not seen any answer from your side.
Could you please let me know if the information above helped or you still need further support.

    Thanks
    Regards
    Kostas
  • Hello Kostas,
Sorry for delayed reply . I am designing a custom board with reference from the captivate -phone and boosterxl keypad. I will test the proximity on the board and let you know
