Hi,

can anyone advise on whether it is possible to use the MSP-FET430UIF gen. 1 programmer to program and debug MSP430 micros with FRAM

(using CCS)?

If not, what is the recommended procedure to program and debug FRAM devices using Code Composer Studio?

To be honest, I can't find a conclusive answer to this from either MSP-FET430UIF page or 'F -> FR migration' documents.

FET430 should support (only?) Flash based devices, but is there a reason that JTAG capabilities wouldn't work for FRAM?

You can use and low-cost MSP430 Launchpad (except old G2) for this. If your target is FR family, than you can select one of FR Launchpad's with similar target device. Just disconnect on-board FET with on-board target device, and connect it to your board. Or MSP-FET.

There was no reason for breaking support for UIF / FRAM, because there is no special JTAG capabilities related to FRAM. It was TI decision. TI MSP debug stack, with all FET firmware's is open source, and (if you want) you can find there difference and patch it by yourself.

Hi Matt,

The MSP-FET430UIF does support all MSP430 devices(FRAM and Flash based). See table 1 in the document below for supported devices and features.

thank you for the suggestion. It might try that too, although according to the document Eddie referenced my old programmer should still work.
