MSP-GANG: Error #396 loading code for MSP430FR5962

MAP-GANG 1.03.01.00 says the RAM size in MSP430FR5962 is 4096 bytes when it is actually 8192 bytes.

It throws error #396 during Open Code File operation.

and error #386 if I try to save the file to an MSP-GANG image.

How can I fix this?

The MSP430FR5962 datasheet says it has 8Kb of RAM.

Both Uni-Flash and Code Composer Studio will program the file that MSP-GANG errors on.

This error impacts our production programming process.

Is the RAM size kept in an editable file somewhere?

Hex editing is acceptable.

How do I reach actual technical support for this tool?

Hi Bill,

I've been in touch with the specialist for this, and this is a visual bug that will be fixed in upcoming updates, it shouldn't affect the process of using the MSP-GANG GUI with the assumption of 8K RAM instead of 4.

You're right, the display of 4096 bytes for RAM size is informational only.

I was too quick to assume that the reported error had something to do with the incorrect RAM size display.

The actual error was caused by a code segment that must run from RAM at startup had been marked Load=RAM, Run=RAM.

The linker did just that, and the MSP-GANG complained about the code being in RAM instead of flash.

Changing the code segment to Load=FRAM, Run=RAM removed the error.
