EVM430-CAPMINI: I Don't Understand CapTIvate Design Center Values

I am having difficulty understanding the data being presented by the CapTIvate Design Center software.

Note: I have removed the supplied acrylic overlay and replaced it with my own overlay.

1. The lta (long term average) doesn't seem to change while running. When and how is this calculated?

2. The button touch state does not change when the count value crosses the displayed touch threshold; it changes at some other threshold. Why?

The touch seems to become active about when the delta and the count are about equal - is this relevant?

What is the touch threshold if it's not where the touch becomes active?

3. What is delta? The delta between what and what?

Where can I find a DETAILED description of the CapTIvate touch algorithm?

Perhaps I asked too many questions.

The root of all my questions is this:

In my scenario, the count is ALWAYS below the Touch Threshold; but the touch state becomes active at some other level.

This is counter to logic and to everything in the documentation.

Why does the touch state not toggle at the indicated touch threshold?

Are you using the default firmware?
Would you please share the screen capture of design center so that I can understand your issue better?

Everything is default (code and settings) and just as it came; except I have removed the acrylic overlay.

The screen captures below show -

a. no touch

b. proximity but no touch

c. light touch

d. full touch

As you can see the touch/no touch transition is nowhere near the the touch threshold. So there must be more going on in the algorithm than is indicated. ... or I simply misunderstand what is being shown.

1. Update the design center parameter by clicking read button under tuning page.

2. Please use latest CapTIvate Design Center

The problem seems to be gone. All I did was toggle the Runtime_Recalibration_Enable (it was in the "checked" state.).

1. Runtime_Recalibration_Enable = unchecked,

2.APPLY

(still not working correctly)

3. Runtime_Recalibration_Enable = checked

4. APPLY

(now toggles at the indicated threshold value)

BTW - my "Tuning" tab doesn't have all of those parameters. How do I get those to come up?

is it possible to download the surce code of the EVM430-CAPMINI demo that drive the led and the buzzer ?

I wish start from this point to learn how manage the microcontroller.

Hi Ling,

I'm sorry be patient I'm new with the MSP430 microcontroller.

Now I'm able to modify and compile the files via CCS Studio plus CapTIvateDesignCenter.

But for update the new firmware on the EMV430-CAPMINI how can I do ?

When I try to use the debugger appear this message "MSP430: Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found"

Will I need a special tools ?
