MSP430F67641: How to interpret data coming from RX/TX ?

Hi,

I established connection between energometer EVM-F67641 and my launcphad MSP-EXP430G2ET through UART/RS-232.
By using Serial port utility I can see HEX data being received from EVM (see pic.attached).

Question: how can I interpret this data? It seems that by converting this reading to ASCII or decimal I don't get the same, that is on energometer display.

Any help?

Hi, I think you can connect MSP-EXP430G2ET to CCS, enter debug mode, set break point on what you want to watch, debug this code in CCS IDE.

I don't understand. I typically use debug mode, when I have written a program. But in this case I don't have any program yet.

I just have continuous string of data coming from RX wire. Question is: what to do with this data?

If you mean jumper positions on MSP-EXP430G2ET, then it is horizontal - HW UART.

Hi Superpanky, Yes. This is my guess.

Could you please help to explain more your setting. I can't get the information from the UART data captured by energometer.

See my connection in picture. Of course also GND pins of Launchpad and Energometer are connected. I allready expressed all this and acquired this concept from another thread: e2e.ti.com/.../742452

As you can see I am also using MSP-ISO plate (where my UART jumpers are in horizontal position, that is opposite as shown here) for safety purposes.

You need to get the decoder ring from TI.

The first thing I would try is convert it all to ASCII. "0D0A" is carriage return/linefeed

As i told - by converting everything to ASCII, I don't get the same, that is on energometer display.

This is the problem.

This RX/TX data is not debug data. Please refer the Keith Barkley comment.

What kind of decoder ring you mean? What it will do - will it decode RX/TX data in some other specific way than to ASCII?

Could you give an example of such ring?

Hi, Discussed with expert, this is just using the back-channel UART on a LaunchPad (not the target) to display the UART data coming from the EVM430-F67641. This would be no different if you used a RS232-to-USB serial adapter and a terminal. First, if the UART data from the UART back-channel gets displayed differently than the serial adapter using the same terminal settings. The F67641 collateral doesn’t include any information about the protocol,
