Hello,
I am using a SimpleLink™ Ethernet MSP432E401Y MCU Launchpad™ Development Kit with a developed BoosterPack that utilizes both the 3.3V and 5V rails from header J1/J3. The main issue is that after using the Launchpad for a while the TPS79601DRBR LDO has somehow been damaged and instead of 3.3V I am seeing around 3.06V. This has happened with two Launchpads, do you know of any reasons this might be happening or if this has been an issue in the past?
Thank you,
Jadyn
Hi Jadyn,
So you're saying this is a custom BoosterPack? Can you provide a picture of your setup so i can see all of the connections? What is the current consumption of the BoosterPack?
Thanks,
Alexis
Hi Alexis,
The BoosterPack has not been released yet so I cannot provide a picture. However my connections are just using a female to female jumper wire to power the board so just the 3V3 pin, 5V, and GND on the J1/J3 header are used. The current drawn from the 5V is around 56mA and the 3V3 is around 1mA.
Thank you,
Jadyn
Hi Jadyn,
How are you powering the launchpad, via USB or with a power supply?
Thanks,
Alexis
Hi Jadyn,
Perhaps you are being current limited. Can you try using a power supply instead?
Thanks,
Alexis
I used two power supplies and no launchpad to power my BoosterPack and the current drawn from the 5V is around 56mA and the 3V3 is around 1mA. Before the LDO voltage dropped to 3V instead of 3.3V I believe my scope showed that the voltage on that pin went all the way up to around 5V.
Thank you,
Jadyn
Jadyn,
Can you confirm that the XDS110 is damaged by removing the connections and confirming that the 3.3V rail is still at 3.0V even with no MSP432E and no boosterpack?
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Jadyn,
Since your issue is related to the TPS79601DRBR LDO and not the MSP432 device itself, please post your question on the power forum.
Thanks,
Alexis
