MSP-FET: Unable to set in CDC mode

Part Number: MSP-FET

We have the MSP-FET programmer (black device) which is in replacement of MSP-FET430UIF (white device) and we are unable to set in CDC mode. The laptop is running in Windows 10 64-bit. Some of the things done as per below but to no avail:

  • Hello Mark,

What you're showing in Device Manager looks correct.

Can you expound on what you're trying to do and what software your using? What CCS version are you using? Check out the following thread.

[FAQ] MSP-FET: SOLUTION: Using newer MSP-FETs with older CCS or IAR versions

  • Hi James,

The purpose of the use of MSP-FET is to upgrade the firmware of our processor board (security device). We are using our own software which is a 'Silver Programming Utility'.

We installed the CCS v9.0 in a 64-bit pc. Is this the correction version to install.

    Thanks.

    Mark

Are you able to use a different programming software such as UniFlash? It's always good to test the MSP-FET operation using one of our software tools.

That's great. Did you make sure that the MSP-FET was disconnected from the PC before installing CCS? You can try programming your board with a code example in CCS, and this should trigger the MSP-FET to get updated if its firmware is outdated.

  • Hi Mark,

In CCS, can you go to Help > About Code Composer Studio > Installation Details > Installed Software > TI MSP430 tool-chain > MSP Debug Probe drivers and share what version (e.g. Rev 3.14.0.000) is shown in the box below?

I suspect that you're using a version older than v3.13.0.001 since that version seems to have fixed the following bug (described here). If you are, try updating it.

    • Fixed an firmware update issue which could prevent the FET from being detected as CDC after a core update

    Regards,

    James
