How can I set the TI-89 to calculate divisions (e.g. 381 / 11) as:
381/11 = 34.63636364 (no fractions)
and not
381/11 = 381/11 (with fractions)
Thanks!

If you click the MODE key, you will be greeted with a menu that shows you the settings of the calculator. Scroll down until you find the Exact/Approx option and select the one you wish. Exact -- with fractions, Approx -- no fractions.
The default is AUTO, which lets the TI decide depending on the input. The way I do it is like this:
381/11. = 34.6363... (adding the decimal point to anyone of the numbers you want to divide forces the calculator to display the approximate result)
381/11 = 381/11 (omitting the decimal point displays the regular answer in terms of fractions)
Since it is useful to see both depending on the type of problem, I leave it as AUTO and use the decimal point accordingly.
Cheers,
Alvaro
To add to Alvaro's point, from a TI-89 pro:
there are 2 answers
1. Press the green diamond key before pressing the ENTER key. This will cause the calculation to be approximate for the one calculation.
2. Press MODE, scroll down to Exact/Approximate and change the setting to Approximate (3). The answer that was provided was correct, but did not have all the details.
Glad to see people using both MSP430 & TI-89 calculators.
