The older MSP430F1, F2, F4 and G2 devices with embedded BSL are flashed with BSLDEMO.exe. The new version of that program contained in the DEPRECATED folder of BSL-Scripter v3.4.0.2, with files dated 9/26/19, now supports the use of generic USB adapters such as FT232, CP2102 and CH340 as the hardware interface, and it also supports use of the Rocket interface. A new "-t" option has been added which lets you specify the Tool used as the interface: -tRocket, -tUSB, or -tBOOTST (the default, which produces the same polarity on DTR as the older versions). In addition, there is a new "-d" option which denotes the use of a target device which has dedicated JTAG pins. For those devices, the polarity of RTS is inverted, and it is connected to the TCK pin.
I have tested the new BSLDEMO on a G2553 using a CP2102 adapter, and it worked fine. I also confirmed that the polarity of RTS is correct for parts with dedicated JTAG pins if the -d option is selected, but don't have any such parts to test with. Nor do I have a Rocket.
So I think this is very good news, and want to thank TI for making these changes. I think it means they can now add the "Rocket" checkmark back to the F2... column in Table 1 of SLAU319 and similar tables found elsewhere.
