CCS/MSP430F6747A: Energy Measurement software library

Hi,
We found the Energy Measurement lib "MSP430-ENERGY-MEASUREMENT".  Does customer directly modify iits source code?  Also, does TI plan to implement SW for "Neutral missing tampering"?

    The Energy Measurement Library (MSP430-ENERGY-MEASUREMENT) is intended to work hand in hand with the Energy Measurement Design Center (EMDC). EMDC is a development tool for energy measurement that includes a GUI, software library, and code examples that help to simplify development of energy metering applications.

    Once customers get the examples up and running with the GUI, they can then make modifications to the source code to meet their application's specific requirements. The Energy Measurement Technology Guide is a useful tool to use when learning about EMDC.

    Please give me a day to look into the "Neutral missing tampering" inquiry.

  • In regards to the "Neutral missing tampering" inquiry:

    You can use EMDC to measure the Neutral current and use that information to detect tampering. In a 3-phase system, this would require 6 ADC channels, but the F6779A has 7 so the extra one can be used for neutral monitoring. In EMDC, there’s an option to name one of the phases “Neutral”. You don’t have to modify the source code for that.

  • Hi Matt Calvo,

    I wonder about when neutral missing tampering is occurred. Meter will go to sleep mode and operate from battery power.

    Basically meter shall periodic wake-up to measure the current that flowing thru meter.

    My question is what is minimum time that meter have to wake-up and make decision that neutral missing tampering is stopped or still occurred?

    Because I quite concern about battery consumption.

    Determining the amount of time that a meter can go to sleep before waking up and measuring if the neutral is being tampered with is determined by the customer's application and requirements. There is a trade-off between the amount of time being spent in Low-Power-Mode and the frequency of waking up to monitor the power lines.

    If you are working on a battery then you may need to prioritize finding the slowest wake-up frequency that still meets your tampering requirements.
