MSP430FR5969: Diode Specifications

Hi MSP430 Experts,

In almost MSP430 datasheets, we can see "Diode current at any device pin" as Absolute Maximum Ratings. And it is specified as 2mA max.

But I can't find the functions and detailed descriptions of the diode in any data sheets and user's guides.

Please teach me how to study the functions and specifications and where we can see them in a document.

Is that only for ESD protection?

And can we supply the 2mA current to GPIO pins continuously?

Hi Johnson,

Thanks so much for your quick answer.

I understand the port structure and mean of the upper currnt limit of the diode is 2mA.

However in the training video, Emrys said 50mA max for source and sink to the diodes. Can we supply not 2mA but 50mA for each diode?

Hi Massa,

This video is only for the principle. The clamp diodes used inside the MSP430 is not the one described in the video, but the principle is the same.

In order to ensure that the MCU works normally, please strictly abide by the data and parameters given in our datasheet.

I never supply voltages and currents exceeding the upper limit in the data sheet.
