MSP430F5438A: Reset during mass erase

Hi there,

I'm trying to upgrade my MSP430 from another processor through SPI. The MSP main code detects an upgrade request and starts executing some upgrade code that is running in RAM.

The upgrade code first executes a mass erase, then receives upgrade payload through SPI and writes the flash one segment at a time.

Sometimes, the MSP430 would reset during a mass erase, effectively bricking it.

Putting the MSP in low power mode before executing the upgrade code resolves this issue.

I probed the MSP430 3.3V supply during the mass-erase induced reset and saw no irregularities, what could be causing the reset?

Have you disable the interrupt before you do the mass erase?

Yes I have tried that and the MSP still resets.

Here's a snippet of my mass erase code:
