MSP430FR6047: What are the differences between MSP430FR6047 and MSP430FR6043 regarding Gas flowmeter?

Part Number: MSP430FR6047
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6043, MSP-ULTRASONIC-DESIGN-CENTER

Hi,

We are developing gas flowmeter project, besides flash and ram size, what are the differences between MSP430FR6047 and MSP430FR6043 regarding Gas flowmeter? Is it possible to use 6047 for gas application?

  • Hi,

Other than the FRAM size and RAM size, the primary difference between MSP430FR6047 & MSP430FR6043 is the SAPH module. You can find more information about this in Chapter 21 (Sequencer for Acquisition, Programmable Pulse Generator, and Physical Interface (SAPH, SAPH_A)) of the Family User's Guide at http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slau367

MSP430FR6043 allows for multi-tone excitation of the transducers while MSP430FR6047 is limited to single tone transducer excitation. Multi-tone excitation is basically pulses of multiple frequencies.

The gas meter USS SW Library at http://www.ti.com/tool/MSP-ULTRASONIC-DESIGN-CENTER -> http://software-dl.ti.com/msp430/msp430_public_sw/mcu/msp430/USSSWLib/USSSWLibGas/latest/ makes use of multi-tone excitation of the transducers.

If you would like to make use of the TI provided USS SW Library for your gas meter development, we recommend using MSP430FR6043.

But if you are going to develop your own ultrasonic algorithms for gas meter using only single tone excitation, you can use either of the devices.
