MSP432E401Y: MCU selection for application

Part Number: MSP432E401Y
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F6778A

Dear Sir / Madam,

We need some help for MCU selection in one of our application.

Basic input/output/peripherals are listed below.

Digital Inputs Pins : 8

Digital Output Pins : 44

Analog Input Pins : 15

SPI Module : 2

UART Module : 2

Captuer Compare Module : 1

External Edge Interrupt : 1

16 bit timers : more than 5

CRC check module : 1

according to above specifications we nedd MCU which have total pins more than 84

in addition to that we want flash memory for MCU more than 512 KB.

so please give us suggestion for above specifications,

Thanks and best regards

Jehan Patel

  • Hi Jehan,

I think MSP432E401Y/E411Y can meet your requirement.

  • Hello sir,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

The price comparison is more for your suggested parts.

I go through your web site and select MSP430F6778A or same series parts which have less cost compare to above parts.

No doubt some specifications are different but I think it will match to our requirement.

one major differrence I observed between this two product is flash memory which we can solved by interfacing a microsd card or external flash memory chip.

Please suggest us perfect combination which match our requirement.

    waiting for your quick reply.

    Thanks and best regards

  • Hi Jehan,

Sure. The MSP430F6778A with an external flash is also a good choice.

  • Hello sir,

Please note MSP430F6778A  have only 7 analog channels which is not satisfied our requirement.

Can you give us more suggestion for same by considering our requirements?

Our basic requirement is for wired MCU only where no bluetooth, CAN or wifi protocol needed.

so suggest us product which satisfied our requirement with minimum possible cost.

    Waiting for your quick reply.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Jehan Patel

  • Hi Jehan,

why you do not select the MSP432P4011 series price is much less than MSP432E401 it has memory options up to 2 MB, offers up to 24 analog input channels.

Does this match your requirements, please check out product folder with all different derivates:

  • Hello Dietmar,

    Thanks for yout suggestion.

But we want MCU in 16bit architecture not in 32 bit architecture.

So if possible then suggest us 16 bit MCU.

If our application is not possble in 16 bit than we will think for 32 bit MCU.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Jehan Patel

  • Hi Jehan,

sorry but a 512 kB 16 bit MCU with 15 analog inputs is not in the portfolio. That's why I proposed the device above.

From programming point of view it doesn't matter because it comes with SimpleLink Software Development Kit (SDK) and a lot of examples so that starting with it is easy. Also it would be an advantage to scale up if more memory might be required.

  • Hello Dietmar,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

But is it possible to interface external MicroSD card with 16 bit MCU to scale up memory?

regarding less number if Analog input pins we can manage by adding Multiplexer.

remaining thing is only memory for that we can add MicroSD card to system.

So if possible then give us reference manual and application note for external microSD card interface.

all attach C,C++ program for same hardware.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Jehan Patel

  • Hi Jehan,

please find below an application note how to interface SD card with MSP430 via SPI. It is for F1612 but you adopt it for F6779 or any other device as well.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hello Dietmar,

    Thanks for documents,

You can temporary closed this case.

If we required any help to interface MicroSD card with controller, then we will reopen this case,

    Thanks and best regards,

    Jehan Patel
