CCS/MSP432P401R: Device stopped working after change DCO frequency to 48MHz

Part Number: MSP432P401R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello,

after I changed the DCO frequency from 12 to 48Mhz, the device stopped to work, and the message error appears:

CORTEX_M4_0: * WARNING *: The connected device is not MSP432P401R
CORTEX_M4_0: GEL Output: Memory Map Initialization Complete
CORTEX_M4_0: GEL Output: Halting Watchdog Timer
CORTEX_M4_0: Flash Programmer: Reading device TLV failed.
CORTEX_M4_0: Error initializing flash programming: Your XMS432P401R material is no longer supported. We recommend you moving to production-quality MSP432P401R/M silicon by ordering samples at www.ti.com/product/MSP432P401R.
CORTEX_M4_0: Loader: One or more sections of your program falls into a memory region that is not writable.  These regions will not actually be written to the target.  Check your linker configuration and/or memory map.

Now, I can't program any code.

I've already tried factory resetting the device based on this document (www.ti.com/.../slau575k.pdf ) section 8.1

But this didn't solve my problem.

I need help, thanks

Davi

note: my launchpad is a red launchpad with MSP-EXP432P401R.

Which problem? (a) Can't program the chip? or (b) Your code locks up the chip?

I haven't yet encountered a case where a Factory Reset didn't fix (a). I have seen sporadic reports of such failures, but I'm not sure how they turned out. I've used the procedure in the Launchpad User Guide (SLAU597B) Sec 5. I suppose those are the same as in the CCS IDE User Guide (SLAU575K) Sec 8.1, but I haven't compared them.

The easiest way to trigger (b) is forgetting to increase the Flash Wait States (=1) for the higher clock speed. [Ref Data Sheet (SLAS826G) Sec 5.8, and TRM (SLAU356H) Tables 9-14 and 9-15]

  • Hi, I can't program the chip anymore, the board does not allow and shows that error.

About the procedure (Launchpad User Guide and CCS IDE User Guide) I compared and they are the same.

I read a forum that had the same problem, but failed to solve too.  [ http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/858948 ].

have some way to fix this problem without program the chip ?

  • Hi Davi,

How about your issue? Is there still downloading the program error?

Do you try use UniFlash to read memory of MSP432P401R and erase this chip?

    Best Regards

    Johnson
