MSP430FR2676: Possibility to use UART pins as LIN?

Expert 6520 points

Part Number: MSP430FR2676

Would it be possible to use UART pins of the device as LIN instead?

  • Hi,

as far as I know you need a UART which supports automatic baud rate detection to support LIN right. At least this is what I read from following 2 links:

See also FR2676 users guide chapter 22.3.4. for further information there also LIN is mentioned.
So simple answer yes LIN is possible with FR2676.

  • Thanks Dietmar.

I read in the pres. you provided (slide 30), that:

    • LIN device driver is implemented in software
    • External LIN bus line drivers required

So it would mean that a LIN driver IC is still required, right?

  • Bart,

please take a look to the LIN specification:

In chapter 6.5.4ELECTRICAL DC PARAMETERS you can see that voltage specifications. The voltage spec of LIN does not match the max 3.6V therefore an external LIN bus driver is required.

Some examples can be found here also the datasheets of some parts has some implementation proposals:
