BOOSTXL-SHARP128: BoostXL-Sharp128

Part Number: BOOSTXL-SHARP128
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR5994, MSP430WARE, MSP-EXP430FR5969, BOOSTXL-AUDIO

Basic question:  Is there a demo/launchpad  for the BoostXL-Sharp128?   I am new to microprocessors.  I  have begun working with CCS.

I have an interest in using the BoostXL-Sharp128. I was thinking I would try it in a data logging application with the MSP430FR5994 launchpad . Are they compatible? Will the 128 block the switches on the 5594?

The original Sharp96 was part of a BoosterPack that had capacitive sliders. And it was paired with the 5969.  That had a stopwatch demo. The Sharp128 Booster does not appear to have the capacitive sliders. So any demos using them would not work well?

I woud very much like to make a ultra low power free pendulum clock drive with a launchpad board.  I would need several timers to do do this, and a pair of phogates and a magnet coil as the drive. (The photo LEDs would be pulsed at low duty cycle and could also be turned on only when the pendulum is about to cross the photogate. )

An associated project would be to use a real time clock with data logging to see the accuracy of the clock.  I would use the Sharp128 to display data, or results.

My plan is to start with the msp-exp430g2  using the training videos at https://training.ti.com/getting-started-msp430g2553-launchpad-part-1?context=1135312-24526

Should I order the MSP430FR5994 launchpad kit and the BoostXL-Sharp128 to use together as a data logger?  I want low power and monochrome is fine.

Thank you for having this forum.

  • Hi,

About your basic question, please refer to:

    2. About the data logging application, I am not sure which port you will using. But please see the picture. You can choose which CS you need to use by changing the used resister. I think you need to check it by yourself.

    3. For the demo, you can refer to this C:\ti\msp\MSP430Ware_3_80_09_03\examples\boards\MSP-EXP430FR5969\MSP-EXP430FR5969_Software_Examples\Firmware\Source\BOOSTXL-SHARP128_GrlibExample_FR5969. You need some time to move it from FR5969 to FR5994.

    4. Yes, you can. FR5994 is much powerful and consume less current than G2xx device. But  the code on FR5994 will be a little different with G2XX.

  • Eason,

I have ordered he BoostXL-Sharp128 and the BoostXL-Audio and the MSP-EXP430RF5994.  They will be here in a few days. I already have the MSP-EXP430G2553.

I have started to go through the videos and I have started looking at the "how do I start with the Sharp128" answer as well.  I did not know about the MSP432 SDK.    So thank you for the link.

I am working through this slowly and it may take a while, but I'll update when I get further along.

    Thank you very much.  -Sandy
