MSP432E411Y: ADC specifications of "precision"

Part Number: MSP432E411Y

Hello,

My customer asked me if its ADC has specifications of "precision". Could you please advise ?

They explained that the word "precision" means the same ADC readings come out for the same ADC input signal voltage.

( I found a similar explanation in Wikipedia -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accuracy_and_precision  ,  Accordint to the Wikipedia, their question is not accuracy, but precision.)

Please note that the external environment was assumed to be ideal.

I could not find such an ADC spec in the DS, therefore we would be glad if TI could provide other data.

  • Do you mean if ADC measure the same voltage, the difference between output result for different times?

    1. This parameter mostly used to describe a  instrument. It has no meaning to ADC, as it can't describe the performance of ADC.

    2. For SAR ADC on MSP432, It should be always same idealy. But from my view, the error will be 1 LSB

    If you ask about accuracy,

    1. This parameter is affected by INL, DNL, Eo, EG. You can refer to ET.

For AC voltage, you need to refer to Dynamic characteristics. like SNR.

  • Eason,

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

Let me confirm. It sounded to me such the ADC precision specification is not available. Is it correct ?

Eason>> Do you mean if ADC measure the same voltage, the difference between output result for different times?

Yes, we mean the difference of the ADC readings for different ADC trials. The input voltage is the same.

  • Yes, we will not give this data. The reason is that it can't show the performance of SAR ADC. In other word, this information has been included in 12-bit.

  • Eason,

Thank you very much for your inputs. Very kind, very useful.
