IAR Workbench crashes

Hello,

I have the following Problem:

Everytime i clicked "Stop debugging" the IDE crashes.

I don't know if it has something to do with this : but this happens to me only  since i am programming in Assembler.

I just started developping my Code , so i start and stop debugger frequently to modify my code. and everytime i have to start the IDE again. it sucks.

N.B : i am using the Simulator at the moment.

does anybody have an idea.

    Me too. IF I configure the project to use MSP-FET430UIF. Everytime I try to change some settings in the project, or I terminate debugging, the IDE crashes. Then When I restart it I can change the settings (and it works). But terminating the debugging still crashes the application.

    before start debugging breakpoints in code are set or not ?

    The behaviour is the same with both breakpoints set or not.

    More, the problem with the configuration change (i.e. you chage some settings in the project, no matter what, even a define in the c preprocessor, and press OK) causes the ide to crash only if Fet debugger is selected as a debugger.

    After the crash you restart the IDE, than you are able to change the settings only once (and save), as soon as you make another change and save it (i.e. you press OK in the settings dialog) the IDE crashes.

    You don't specify which version of IAR you are using.

    IAR has a support site for their tools. You might want to try there as well.

    I have found a possible solution for this annoying problem.
    Go to your /Users/%username%/AppData/Local/Temp/ directory
    and delete the command.xcl file. (Maybe all of the files in that directory should be deleted.)

    Under certain circumstances, for example when changing Project>Options or selecting another configuration, automatic Windows 8 compatibility settings can cause problems for IAR Embedded Workbench. Error message(s) produced then contain information similar to: - Faulting application path: $EW_DIR$\common\bin\IarIdePm.exe - Faulting module path: $EW_DIR$\common\bin\kernel.dll.

    Workaround: Install another copy of your IAR Embedded Workbench product in a different location or rename the directory of your current installation.

    What I tried is renamed the folder name:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\IAR Systems\Embedded Workbench 6.4

    to

    C:\Program Files (x86)\IAR Systems\Embedded Workbench 6.4_

    And the crash issue is resolved!

    This worked for me.  I was using IAR EW8051 version 8.30 fine on Win7.  With Win 10 it crashed every time I stopped cc-debugger or changed project options.

    I did not find a command.xcl file to delete as someone mentioned above.

    Also, tried Win7 compatibility without success.

    So, I installed EW8051 again.  It asked to put it in C:\Program Files (x86)\IAR Systems\Embedded Workbench 6.5_2.  (Original is in C:\Program Files (x86)\IAR Systems\Embedded Workbench 6.5) .   I okay'd that.

    Original continues to crash every time I stop the debugger, or do some other stuff.  

    2nd install is fine so far.  

    Makes no sense.

    I have the same problem.


    I found a strange registry on:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
    that related to 430fet.dll.

    The problem was solved on my environment after deleted this registry by using regidit.
