Hi
Is it possible to sense a cardboard box using capacitive sensing with CapTIvate?
For example, we want to detect the cardboard box onto the sensor.
The sensor and the cardboard box can be in proximity.
BestRegards

Hi,
For anything to be “detectable” there needs to be some level of coupling to circuit ground or earth.
For example when a finger touches an electrode, our body is coupled to ground and “completes” the circuit, so to speak.
If you simply place cardboard, or for that matter any material, on an sensing electrode, it would register nothing. It needs to couple to ground.
To work around this you can build an electrode with a ground around it and now if you place anything that has a larger dielectric than air (~1.0), in theory it will detect it (within the sensitivity range of CapTIvate).

Leo
