MSP430FR2355: TXBUF IRQ questions?

Part Number: MSP430FR2355

Trying to track something down in code....

The user's guide says the following

"Transmit interrupt flag. UCTXIFG is set when UCAxTXBUF empty"

Questions:

1. After I send a message the last byte remains sitting in the UCA1TXBUF....From the above statement it seems to imply that my flag will still be set even though the byte was transmitted.  Is this true?

2. If I write a '0' the UCA1TXBUF will this clear the TXIFG?

3. If a byte is in the UCA1TXBUF and I clear the TXIFG will this flag stay cleared until another byte is written into the TXBUF and is this a legitimate way of stopping transmissions?

Thanks
