MSP-EXP430FR2355: Interfacing confirmation

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR2355
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, MSP430FR2355

Hi Team,

I am posting this on behalf of our customer. It is related to this e2e thread he submitted below:
The customer wants a direct answer from a TI specialist so we are looking forward to your answer to his questions below:

1. Does the board built-in a RS232-USB bridge. The material I have is a JTAG-USB programmer debugger non-TI; the manufactures states it is compatible with MSP432 references but not with MSP430.

2. Any idea about how to code a USART from a UART?

Please let me know if you have any questions for the customer.

Thanks,

Jonathan

  • Hello Jonathan,

    1.  No, the board does not include RS-232 bridge.  It does include a backchannel UART which can be used to communicate with the PC via USB.  The debugger you have for MSP432 will not work with MSP430.  MSP430 uses the MSP-FET as a stand alone debugger.  Please note that the MSP-EXP430FR2355 includes the debugger on board, so you do not need to use any external debugger.

    2. The eusci peripheral on the MSP430FR2355 can support LIN which is a USART based protocol.  Does this answer your question?  If not, please provide more details.

  • Hi Eddie,

I will now consider this as resolved.

    Thank you for your support.
