MSP430F5510: After SYS16 occurs

Part Number: MSP430F5510

Hi,

Customers have questions about Erratasheet of MSP430F5510. SYS16

「Fast Vcc ramp after device power up may cause a reset」

It seems that SYS16 is occurring in the customer's application, so please let me check the following.

Question 1:

Is this an errata that BOR occurs many times? Or does it reset once and then the application works as usual?

Question 2:

If this errata causes reset, does user have to power down?

Question 3:

This occurs at dV/dT > 1V/100us. Is there a report of the number of occurrences and frequency? (ex 1/1000 times, 1/1000 chips)

Customers measured the lamp. I suggest to the customers to improve.

0 - 1.7V dV/dT:1.5V/100us

1.7V~ dV/dT:0.5V/100us

Regards, Rei

  • Hi rei

Question 1: Is this an errata that BOR occurs many times? Or does it reset once and then the application works as usual?

    Answer: 1 time. Reset happened.

Question 2: If this errata causes reset, does user have to power down?

Answer: power down is not must. but reset will happen in this case. reset will affect application.

Question 3: This occurs at dV/dT > 1V/100us. Is there a report of the number of occurrences and frequency? (ex 1/1000 times, 1/1000 chips)

Answer: I think this phenomenon can be repeated. when the PSS High Side Voltage (DVCC) is ramped up from 2V to 3V with ramp-rates higher than or equal to 100us, the PSS High side Brownout (BORHV) generates a faulty RESET which resets the entire chip

  • Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Sorry, I didn't understand much because use different words from DS and UG.

Question: I understand the following about this errata. Is it correct?

After exceeding the threshold V(SVSH_IT–), if the ramp rate is dV/dT> 1V/100us, POR will occur once. If the application has no effect even if POR occurs once, it can be operated continuously.

    Regards,

    Rei

  • Hi Rei

Could you please comment where is the description in? I haven't found the description on MSP430F5510 DS or Errata

"After exceeding the threshold V(SVSH_IT–), if the ramp rate is dV/dT> 1V/100us, POR will occur once. If the application has no effect even if POR occurs once, it can be operated continuously."

    Thanks!

  • Hi Xiaodong,

Thank you for your reply. This is my interpretation about SYS16. I want to know if this is correct.

For example, SYS16 "This causes the device to undergo a reset."
What kind of reset is this?(POR? BOR?)

From the explanation "after Vcc crosses the brownout threshold",
I interpreted that this Vcc is V(SVSH_IT–), and one POR occurs,
and the application that can be reset once (ex. customer's app is USB HID), it doesn't matter.

Sorry for the many questions. I want to know more about this errata.

    Regards,
    Rei

  • Hi Rei

I checked the description and waveform in CDDS.

The description is: when the PSS High Side Voltage (DVCC) is ramped up from 2V to 3V with ramp-rates higher than or equal to 100us, the PSS High side Brownout (BORHV) generates a faulty RESET which resets the entire chip。

Please check my answer on your questions.

Q: What kind of reset is this?(POR? BOR?)

    A: BOR

Q: the application that can be reset once (ex. customer's app is USB HID), it doesn't matter.

A: BOR happen ONE time after DVCC ramped up as the above condition. the application can be reset ONCE
