CCS/MSP430G2553: Example of stack usage generated by CCS. How to interpret it ?

Hi all,

I have this picture with the stack usage generated by CCS:

How do I interpret it ? What is the difference between inclusive and exclusive area ?

Do I have to sum all numbers or do I have to take the maximum in order to find out the stack usage ?

Hey Ionel,

I'm not very familiar with this Stack Usage Tool. I usually just manually check the stack with the Memory browser when I'm debugging.

I have managed to find it out.

I have set the stack size to a low size like 16 bytes then I placed a vector of 128 bytes next to the stack. I filled up the vector with a pattern like 0xABCD then I let the program running to cover as many calls as possible. After that I have checked how much the stack pointer walked through the vector then I added padding.

It seems the 42 bytes from the above picture is the stack usage. It matched my value found after the described method.
